ACADEMICS

Departments

Our academic structure includes applied departments focused on exploration, media, and sustainable systems.

Our approach to teaching centers on how we think and how we act.
Through our departments, we connect thoughtful inquiry with purposeful action.
Students engage in innovative, experiential projects designed to create meaningful and transformative impact.

Space Studies Department

We live in an extraordinary period of exploration.
Space offers a powerful vantage point for advancing our understanding of our planet, the solar system, and the broader universe.

Students engage in hands-on design, research, and applied development projects that drive meaningful innovation.

Through courses, workshops, internships, and applied projects, students transform complex scientific challenges into real-world aerospace solutions.

The department includes the following divisions:

  • General Aviation
Personal flying, urban mobility, drone systems

  • Autonomous Commercial Aviation
    Air traffic systems, autonomous aircraft

  • Aeronautics & Astronautics
    Meteoritics, laser science, orbital systems

Media Studies Department

Media and technology now shape how stories and information move through a connected world.

Technology and media are deeply interwoven, evolving from early print to streaming and interactive digital platforms. Emerging media ecosystems continue to reshape how information is created, distributed, and experienced across global networks.

Through KMTP TV 33 in San Francisco, WIT’s educational broadcast station, students develop and distribute creative content that engages both local communities and national audiences. The department serves as a professional training ground for applied storytelling, digital production, and interactive media innovation.

Department of Sustainable Food Systems

Climate change poses an existential threat to our food supply — and global inequality is deepening the crisis.

From global surplus to food deserts, food systems reveal deep structural inequalities and environmental strain.

The department explores advanced agricultural technologies including robotics, sensor systems, aerial imaging, and GPS-enabled precision farming.

Through applied research and real-world projects, students address challenges related to food security, equity, justice, and long-term environmental sustainability.
